Walter Lippman famously said: ‘When all think alike, then no one is thinking‘.
The current education system, with it’s emphasis on churning out ‘testable units’, rather than free thinkers, has created millions of people, who have never been educated on how to think for themselves.
They want the handbook.
They want permission.
They want certainty.
They want guidelines.
As creative professionals, the finest thing we can do to improve our art or work, is to re-educate ourselves… to learn how to think as an individual, not part of the crowd (even the artisan crowd). It’s about learning that every effort we make to fit in, stops us from standing out and robs us of our voice.
